Moving from paper-based to electronic patient records...

The MSP EHR Selector is a tool to help practices learn how to move from paper-based to electronic health records (EHRs). There are many reasons group practices might want to make this transition and the EHR Selector is designed to cover them all. One over-riding reason is that practices that have successfully adopted EHRs are worth on average, 15% more than practices that have not yet deployed an EHR.

Electronic health records are becoming essential tools to protect practice reimbursement and overall revenues by documenting and billing for all patient services actually provided and participating in the pay-for-performance (P4P) initiatives that somewhat offset the continuing reductions in reimbursement-per-patient by the government and many private insurers. Even physicians who are planning to retire or sell their practices will find that successfully adopting EHR before they do so will make their practice more valuable and more attractive to younger physicians who are their primary prospects.

Deciding to automate your practice and selecting an EHR is not as simple as picking an EHR ad from a magazine that "sounds good" or calling a couple of associates who have already automated their practices for a referral. When you dig down a bit you discover how complex these systems are and how unique your practice actually is. Attend a trade show and you can find 50 vendors. Spend a few hours looking at their systems and you will come away overwhelmed and confused. What is needed is a tool to help you collect and organize the the vast array of EHR information. Many physicians ultimately turn to their specialty organizations for assistance. Many specialty organizations point them to MSP as the impartial source of partially-vetted information with a simple tool that allows each physician to assert their practice needs and workflow to the MSP EHR Selector, and find CCHIT-certified EHR solutions that meet these needs exactly. The MSP EHR Selector uses a series of Global Profiles to empower physicians, particularly first-time adopters who know that if they pick the wrong EHR, it can be a costly, even practice-crippling event, to pick a short-list of highly qualified and cost-effective solutions. The MSP EHR Selector gives physicians the impartial, accurate, certified and vetted information and the selection process needed to successfully evaluate major EHR developers and obtain a short-list of highly qualified EHR solutions that do meet all practice criteria.

The MSP EHR Selector is a tool that makes it easy to learn about or select CCHIT-certified and partially vetted EHR solutions that will actually "fit" the workflow and practice specialty a straight-forward, well-defined process. The EHR Selector helps practices break down the process into various steps (some of which are shown below), such as: comparing the features of leading EHR solutions available, specifying criteria important to your practice specialty, determining which EHR solutions are compatible with the type of workflow you currently use to produce paper charts, etc. Below is a snapshot of some of the key functions of the MSP EHR Selector. You will find more in-depth information by browsing the Frequently-Asked Questions (FAQ) Guide (next link) after you have reviewed these simple "Learn More" examples.

Hosting multiple demo's in your office can dramatically impact office productivity, and the results can be misleading unless you have determined from a patient encounter workflow analysis, what criteria are important to each person who particpates in each patient encounter. Instead, use the MSP EHR Selector to accomplish an initial screening and feature comparisons online with current vendor data, and only then invite a short-list of pre-qualified EHR developers to conduct a demo. Extending that invitation requires only a mouse-click on the EHR Selector and you control when that happens. The EHR Selector allows you to invest your time in picking the winner by concentrating on business negotiations, legal contract and other factors not included on the EHR Selector.
