When purchasing an EMR, getting legal requirements right is critical. You can bet that the EMR developers purchasing or licensing agreement favors the developer more than the physician.

You will find help in the book, "How to Evaluate Electronic Health Record (EHR) Systems", By Patricia A. Trites, MPA, and Reed D. Gelzer, MD, MPH, that is available from AHIMA. Dr. Gelzer"s book ($129) but covers the topic in some detail.
